If you are a serious gym enthusiast, then you will know that having a quality whey protein is the foundation of a solid supplement strategy. But what should you be looking for when it comes to your protein requirements? For me, it comes down to nutritional value, taste and price. Once you have this down, the question then, is which ‘whey’ to go? The guys at Nutritech were kind enough to give the CHROME team the full range of their Premium Pure Whey for us to test out. Taking the above 3 points, and others, into account; this is what we thought about the product.

NUTRITIONAL VALUE OF NUTRITECH PREMIUM PURE WHEY:

Nutritional value can be further broken down into the amount of protein per serving, the types of whey protein it contains and the amino acid profiles of the product.

NUTRITECH PREMIUM PURE WHEY: AMOUNT OF PROTEIN PER SERVING:

Per 30g serving, this product offers a high 24g of protein. This is more than enough for a general serving of protein and doubling-up after a workout (like you do with most whey proteins), will exceed the required amount. We suggest aiming for 40g of protein as a rule of thumb for the average individual.

THE TYPE OF PROTEIN IN PREMIUM PURE WHEY:

  • Whey Concentrate
  • Whey Isolate
  • Whey Hydrolysate

This protein blend contains all three protein types. They are listed in descending order in the ingredients listing. This means that it contains more whey concentrate than isolate and hydrolysate. It would obviously be better if it was the other way around as hydrolysed whey  is the purest on the market; however, there are many brands that don’t even contain isolate or concentrate at all. So this blend is still up there with most of the big players.

AMINO ACID PROFILES:

The three main amino acids we need to consider when it comes to buying a whey protein is leucine, iso-leucine and valine a.k.a. BCAA’s. Leucine is considered the most important amino acid to kick-start protein synthesis and this product packs 2.883g of this muscle-building amino per serving. A decent ratio of amino acids is either 2:1:1 or 3:1:1. So having 2.883g leucine, 1.041g isoleucine and 0.966g valine, Nutritech is close on the mark.

PREMIUM PURE WHEY TASTE:

I have tasted pretty much every flavour they have on the market and most of them have been rather delicious. The one which I didn’t like, American Ice Cream Soda, was the most popular in the CHROME office. Go figure! Maybe it is because I am boring and like to stick to my plain-old flavours like chocolate, strawberry and cookies and cream. But this goes to show that with the variety Nutritech has on offer, there is a flavour to suit every palate.

PREMIUM PURE WHEY MIXABILITY:

This is something that irks me beyond measure. There is nothing worse than when protein doesn’t mix well or clumps at the bottom of your shaker and you can’t get it out. Besides being a waste of precious protein, it steals from my gains. The guys from Nutritech must feel the same way because they have developed a protein that mixes like a dream. A few shakes and your protein is perfectly blended.

PREMIUM PURE WHEY PRICE:

This is probably one of the best value for money proteins available on the market and is gaining popularity second to none. With a good whey protein being a staple and probably the most consumed product in your supplement arsenal, getting the most bang for your buck is one of the major factors most people consider when buying a whey protein.
