Running is probably one of the best outdoor activities to help you lose weight; however, some would run a lot better if they lost a bit of weight. In order to lose a bit of flab, you need to know that nutrition is the most critical aspect and it’s also the most difficult to control. In this article we will cover a few quick fixes you can implement right now to help you trim a few kilograms and help you get back to or in to running.

STRATEGIZE MEALS

This is probably the most important and most difficult tip to implement, but if you manage to get it right I can almost guarantee great results. Plan ahead, make sure you know what you are going to eat and when. It’s best to opt for 3 balanced meals with 2 snacks in between. The moment you fail to prepare you can just as well prepare to fail.

CUT YOUR SUGAR

For some this might be easier said than done and many others might think they aren’t eating any sugars until they look at the ingredient label. The best thing to do is avoid any drinks high in sugar and this includes fruit juices. These kind of calories are basically empty calories and will never keep you satisfied. They can also cause irregular blood sugar spikes which is exactly what you DON’T want. So, what do you opt for? Diet Soda’s?? Hmmm… Have a look at the truth behind diet soda’s.

DON’T SKIP YOUR BREAKFAST

Another important aspect of weight loss is that you need to get your metabolism fired up, and the best way to do that is by giving it something to feed on. But it all just comes down to what you are feeding it. Don’t make the mistake of assuming that your muesli and yogurt breakfast is healthy. Check the sugar content and make sure that the majority of carbs are low GI. To be safe we won’t even recommend muesli and yogurt, rather opt for 2 scrambles eggs on rye as it is a lot more balanced and consist of all 3 macro-nutrients which is ideal for any meal. Why should you opt for eggs? Well, we are glad you asked… Make sure to read our article on eggs and their benefits.

TREAT YOURSELF WITH A HEALTHIER ALTERNATIVE

We all want to treat ourselves every now and then for our hard work and discipline throughout the week and of course you should, however, maybe try and opt for a healthier option. If you are in the mood for chocolates, opt for dark chocolate and if you are in the mood for pancakes search for a healthier recipe online or feel free to visit our recipe section for a few awesome healthy sweet treats.

HEALTHIER ALTERNATIVE NUTRITION

Treat yourself and your taste buds to healthier alternative options, including breakfast, lunch, suppers and snacks

DON’T PURCHASE TREATS IF YOU KNOW YOU ARE GOING TO BE TEMPTED AT HOME

This is quite a simple one. Make sure to stay away from the very attractive sweet treat isle. At the end of the day it’s a lot easier to win the battle in the grocery store than at home.

EVERYTHING IN MODERATION

Avoid the pitfall of assuming it is okay because I read it’s healthy. Many different foods are healthy but that doesn’t make them ideal for fat loss. For example, yogurt is a healthy alternative, however some brands are loaded with sugar and unnecessary calories, and this is why it’s so important to read labels! Dark chocolate is a healthier alternative to chocolate, but a slab a day will definitely not keep the doctor away. Another thing you need to know is that the food industry is filled with NUTRITION LIES! We tell you more about them in the following article.
